What does the Trek Entail?

A few people have asked me what the trek actually involves and this is what I have discovered so far:

Grade 4 – Moderate, suitable for most hill or power walkers.

Generally involves 6 to 7 hour days at moderate altitude on good paths and tracks. Altitudes could vary anywhere from  2840 metres to 5545 metres. Walking speed approx 2 miles per hour – slow at first but speeding towards the end, as hope you get used to the altitude. At times, the trail could be moderately difficult and could involve long and very steep uphill trails. Approximate mileage covered 50 miles lots of ups and downs.

A reasonable level of fitness is required. Anyone in a good physical condition can participate on these treks.

Physical training for at least 3 times a week, for 2 months prior to commencement of trek is very helpful for minimise fatigue and enjoy the trek.

So far I have managed the gym sessions, rowing cycling and cross trainer and some walks – but not long ones. I will have to get some longer walks in and time is flying by as there are only 82 days to go.

I found some really interesting videos on YouTube and I am really looking forward to it.
