At Cell Pack Solutions, we pride ourselves not only on delivering high-quality custom battery packs but also on prioritising the well-being of our team. With 33 employees making up our workforce, we’ve always recognised the direct link between employee health, productivity, and job satisfaction. So, when a routine health needs assessment revealed that many of our employees were struggling with sleep, we knew we had to act to try and improve the wellbeing of our team.

Why We Did the Study

The assessment showed that a staggering 74% of our team reported issues with sleep, most struggling more than twice a week. With the critical role sleep plays in maintaining good health—strengthening the immune system, managing weight, reducing the risk of serious health conditions like diabetes and heart disease, and improving mood and cognitive function—it was clear we needed to take action. Our Health Advocates were eager to tackle this head-on with a six-week Summer Sleep Study to help our employees improve their sleep and overall well-being.

“As a company, we recognize that our employees are our greatest asset, and their well-being directly impacts our success. The Summer Sleep Study was more than just an initiative – it was a commitment to helping our team lead healthier, more balanced lives. I’m proud to see the positive changes this study has brought about, not just in terms of sleep improvement, but in fostering a culture of wellness and support at Cell Pack Solutions. When our people thrive, so does our business.”

Study Focus

The Sleep Study aimed to give our team the tools and support they needed to improve their sleep habits. Beyond just personal benefits, the study fostered a sense of community, where colleagues could talk about sleep, share advice, and even engage in a little friendly competition.

How the Study Worked

Participation was voluntary, and we were thrilled that 14 employees—6 from the office and 8 from production—signed up for the six-week commitment. For those who didn’t already own one, we provided smartwatches to help track sleep patterns. Each week had a different focus:

  • Week 1: Baseline data collection to see where everyone stood with their regular sleep routines.
  • Week 2: Establishing a consistent sleep routine, including weekends, to stabilise circadian rhythms.
  • Week 3: Preparing for sleep by creating a calming environment, avoiding distractions, and unwinding before bed.
  • Week 4: Diet and sleep, where we encouraged avoiding heavy meals, sugar, and caffeine before bedtime.
  • Week 5: Incorporating exercise into daily routines to improve serotonin levels and regulate sleep.
  • Week 6: Autonomy and reflection, with participants focusing on maintaining their progress and setting future goals.

Throughout the study, everyone kept a daily sleep journal, tracking the number of hours they spent in deep sleep, light sleep, and overall sleep. They also rated their mental and physical health.

The Results

The study yielded promising results. Of the 14 participants, 50% improved their sleep scores, with one participant notably increasing their average sleep duration from 6 hours and 12 minutes in Week 1 to 8 hours and 3 minutes in Week 6.
By the end of the study, 65% of participants were getting the recommended 7-8 hours of sleep per night, while 35% were sleeping between 6-7 hours per night. Additionally, only 7% of participants continued to experience trouble sleeping more than twice a week.

A Positive Outcome

Our Summer Sleep Study highlighted the importance of sleep and gave our team practical ways to improve their sleep patterns. It’s been an amazing experience to see the positive changes this initiative has brought about, not just in sleep quality but in the overall culture at Cell Pack Solutions. Here’s to continuing to put well-being at the heart of everything we do!

I’m falling asleep quicker for the first time in 10 years.”

“I’m more aware of how I feel waking up. It makes me pay attention to how I prepare before sleep. I’m extra focused on the amount of deep sleep I get and rated my sleep on how energised I felt in the morning”
