We’re delighted to share that Cell Pack Solutions has been awarded Gold status in the Better Health at Work Award (BHAWA), recognising our continued commitment to creating a workplace where wellbeing, inclusion and support are part of everyday life.

This milestone builds on our previous Bronze and Silver achievements and highlights the incredible effort our team has put into promoting physical, mental and emotional wellbeing across the business.

Building on a Strong Foundation

Over the past year, we’ve strengthened our wellbeing approach with the introduction of a three-year Health and Wellbeing Strategy and an active Workplace Committee, ensuring that everyone has a voice in shaping our wellbeing priorities.

Our initiatives were designed around feedback from staff surveys and our latest Health Needs Assessment, helping us focus on the topics that matter most to our team, from healthy eating and stress management to physical activity and overall work-life balance.

Highlights from Our Gold Year

Healthy Eating & Weight Management

This year saw some deliciously successful initiatives, from Try It Tuesdays and Nutrition and Hydration Week to our Corporate Cooking Class, where staff teamed up to cook nutritious meals together.
Hosted by Nourish Food School, the session encouraged staff to learn more about nutrition, portioning and affordable cooking, with plenty of laughter, teamwork and great food along the way.
We also hosted a Pizza Party with a healthy twist and introduced Nutritional Booster Shots to help the team explore simple ways to boost daily nutrition.

Stress and Mental Health

Our wellbeing campaigns extended to mental health, with initiatives such as Blue Monday positivity week, Screen-Free Lunches and one-to-one Financial Wellbeing Clinics in partnership with HSBC.
These sessions provided practical tools for managing stress and encouraged open conversations around emotional wellbeing.
We also revisited World Sleep Day, continuing to build on last year’s study into sleep habits and overall health.

Physical Activity

From taking part in On Your Feet Britain to our lunchtime Laygate Loop walks, we’ve kept movement front of mind.
Our Family Beach Day at South Shields was another highlight, bringing employees, partners and children together for a day of fun, paddleboarding, and friendly competition in the sun.

Men’s Health

Our “3 B’s: Balls, Bellies and Brains” campaign encouraged men to prioritise their health, covering everything from self-checks and diet to mental wellbeing.
We also enhanced our Paternity Leave Policy, supporting greater balance for all parents, and joined local businesses for the Ramble On coastal walk to raise awareness of men’s mental health.

Cancer Awareness

Throughout the year, we marked national and international cancer awareness days, from Cervical and Prostate Cancer to Melanoma and Pancreatic Cancer.
Staff were encouraged to share stories, wear colours to represent cancer types close to them, and access local health resources through our awareness boards and QR-linked materials.

A Workplace Culture to Be Proud Of

The Gold Award reflects the genuine care and dedication our people show towards each other every day.
From offering free health checks and paid time off for medical screenings to launching our Employee Assistance Programme and expanding family-friendly policies, we’re proud to support our team’s wellbeing in every way we can.

We’re also sharing what we’ve learned beyond our workplace, helping other South Tyneside businesses on their own Better Health at Work journeys and continuing to take part in community-focused events and initiatives.

A special thank you goes to Zoe Malam and our Workplace Committee for leading the way and helping make this year’s wellbeing programme our best yet.

Looking Ahead

Achieving Gold is a fantastic milestone, but it’s only part of our ongoing journey.
We’ll continue to build on our wellbeing strategy, strengthen our community partnerships and keep finding new ways to make Cell Pack Solutions an even healthier and happier place to work.
