Lithium Ion, Rechargeable NiMH, Alkaline or even Sealed Lead Acid?
Maybe just some of the options you have thought about if you’re in the middle, or just beginning to developing a new product. If the thought has not crossed your mind, we recommend that you definitely begin to think about it soon!
Countless times, we have had customers come to us in the middle of a project, requiring a battery pack that simply cannot fit within their device or meet its power requirements. This usually results in changing the design as well as prolonging both timescale and budget.
If you have started to worry about your project’s battery requirements, contact our Technical Team who are happy to assist you.
For applications used repeatedly, a rechargeable NiMH battery is a trusted and safe chemistry capable of powering your product over and over again. NiMH can withstand up to 1,500 cycles depending on your choice of battery. Out-performing the older NiCd chemistry, NiMH is often more cost effective and easier to transport than Li-Ion.
NiMH rechargeable battery packs offer clear logistical advantages, especially when compared with lithium-based alternatives. Since NiMH cells are not classified as hazardous goods under most regulations, they can be shipped, stored, and handled with fewer restrictions. This reduces both the paperwork and cost associated with transporting battery-powered products, which is particularly important when shipping internationally.
NiMH batteries also have fewer storage limitations, meaning they can often be held in bulk without temperature-controlled environments or extensive risk assessments. For OEMs and service providers looking for a reliable and regulation-light battery chemistry, NiMH packs offer a practical and compliant power solution.
NiMH battery packs continue to be a popular choice across industries due to several additional benefits:

With over 20 years experience of designing and manufacturing rechargeable battery packs for many applications across numerous markets, Cell Pack Solutions are the partner your project needs.
During our time designing custom battery packs, we have provided 1,000’s of unique packs. Each application’s demands have been carefully considered to ensure the pack delivers the performance expected for the device.
You can rest assured that our expertise and technical knowledge will bring your project to life. We can advise on components, configurations and cell choice to ensure that your application performs to the standards you require.
We can deliver prototypes fast, for real world testing. Naturally progressing to small batch runs before large scale production and distribution of the battery pack.
For our full list of capabilities please see our company page.
Our technical design team can also provide a battery pack chargers best fitted to your Custom Rechargeable Battery Pack. Reliability is ensured by using market leading intelligent battery chargers. If the pack requires out-of-device charging, bespoke charging cradles can be 3D printed to fit your battery pack.

Being the UK’s largest stockist of GP batteries, we continue to recommend their cells in our battery packs and have done for over a decade. We have found in this time that the consistency and performance of GP is second to none. With a wide range of sizes on offer, we can cater to any battery requirements.

NiMH battery packs are safer to transport, easier to test, and more environmentally friendly. They are also reliable, cost-effective, and offer high cycle life for many industrial and consumer applications.
No, most NiMH battery packs are not classified as hazardous goods, which makes them simpler and cheaper to ship compared to lithium-ion batteries.
In many cases, no. NiMH cells are more tolerant and do not always need a complex BMS, making them easier to integrate during development.
Yes. While lithium-ion offers higher energy density, NiMH is still ideal for applications where safety, cost, and compliance are more important than size or weight.
Absolutely. At Cell Pack Solutions, we offer fully custom NiMH battery packs designed to meet specific voltage, capacity, size, and connector requirements.
Modern NiMH battery packs can last hundreds of cycles. With proper care and charging, they are a long-lasting solution for many rechargeable battery applications.

Classic camera: battery pack to fit existing holder.Originally 10 cell(12v) configuration. 2 cells in length. 8 cells+2cells-kind of pyramid stacking with special connector integrated in pack. As early 60’s NiCad pack was used with possible capacity around 700mAh max. Envisage NiMH cells with total capacity 700mAH to 1000mAH.
Would send battery pack within holder so layout/connector can be seen/used. Have photos if needed. Have two battery packs.
