How do I choose a Lithium Battery Pack Charger?

  • Identify how many cells you need to charge to find the correct voltage you need (1 Lithium-ion cell = 3.7V, 2 Lithium-ion cells = 7.4V, 3 Lithium-ion cells = 11.1V and so on)
  • The charge current cannot be more than C, where C represents the battery capacity, subject to protection circuitry
  • For a fully discharged lithium battery, the time necessary to have 80% of the charge of your battery is calculated by dividing the battery capacity by the charger’s output current. E.g. if you have a 4 cell battery (14.8V) which is 2.2A and a 2A charger, your battery will be 80% charged within roughly 1 hour (2.2 / 2 = 1.1). The last 20% need 2 to 3 hours of supplementary charge to reach 100% of the capacity.
