One of my passions outside of work is to play chess. One of my other passions is to encourage other people to play chess. This year is the 150th Anniversary of our Chess Club in South Shields so we have decided to run a number of Celebration Events. When you have no budget for marketing you have to think outside the box and take every opportunity to promote and raise profile. So with a launch date of April 1st is seemed very apt that we try to fool the public of South Tyneside, with a ridiculous claim that we were going to replace South Shields’ most Iconic Structure, The Groyne, with a 6O ft Chess Piece.
The Club will be hosting a One Day Rapid Play Competition at The Customs House on the banks of the River Tyne on the 3rd of July, thanks to the support of some of the longest established companies in the area, like MI DICKSON, FORD ENGINEERING, SOLAR SOLVE and JT McGUNINNESS OPTOMETRISTS.
